FirefoxOS, test it on your Windows/macOs/linux

Firefox OS is the new mobile OS from Mozilla...

Firefox OS consists of 3 basic software layers: 

• Gonk (kernal, HAL, and low-level components
• Gecko (rendering engine, web APIs)
• and Gaia (HTML5 User interface layer).

Download the B2G packet from this page:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/b2g/nightly/latest-mozilla-central/

choose your build version (linux, mac, win...):

Download only the 14 MB file!

Put this file in a easy-to-find directory like C:/  and unzip the ~win32.zip file...
The result is a directory called "b2g".

Now we need GAIA (HTML5 User interface layer). 

So download a GIT client like msysGit : http://msysgit.googlecode.com/files/Git-1.7.11-preview20120704.exe

and install it with the default options (don't select Explorer Integration option).

When installed, start Git Bash (you should have a Git Bash shortcut on your desktop) and write:

git clone git://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia

Now you must have installed a GCC to run this next command (this Git client has a low range of commands :\ test if your version has the "make" command to compile).

If you don't have it download and install it now: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/latest/download?source=files

Install it with default options (C compiler, repository, bla bla bla) and add msys.

After the installation, run MinGW Shell from your Start Menu / All programs and write:

make -C /mypath/gaia profile

where mypath is the directory where is Gaia, in my case C:/Users/LCL/gaia

Then write   (replace mypath with your b2g directory path, in my case C:/B2Gdir/):

/mypath/b2g -profile gaia/profile

Remember that the "b2g" in the row above is b2g.exe!

Ok,done...

Uhm... ok something goes wrong and nothing is working...

The launchpad is in the desktop like iOS and you can scroll it.
There are several applications and games.

This is the search screen (left to the launchpad)

Telephone screen.

The notification bar is like the Android one.
When expanded it shows switches.

3D test with a translucent skull
