Virtual Reality

What happened to the Virtual Reality so often dreamed in the 80's and 90's?

What do we have today? Especially in the homes of consumers?

Sony Move: ok, but it seems very primitive
Nintendo Wiimote: Like Move, more or less
MS Kinect: Good, detects motion, objects (with nothing in your hands) and "textures" (pictures).

But none of these immerses the player / user in a virtual world as we thought then.

What is missing? The classic goggles to wear, maybe with orientation sensors to direct the viewport (the view of the game, the camera in the 3D environment) and then show to the player what he should see.

MS IllumiRoom for the Kinect 2 and XBOX720

The next Xbox will have, as an accessory, a projector to project the game on the walls of your room (maybe using the Kinect to see where you're looking at?). Is it considered AR (augmented reality) or VR?
We'll see ...

Nope, Google Glass is not VR imho, but AR like Google Googles in your ... googles.

Wii U, but I'm not

I'm not too much interested in the new Nintendo console "WiiU", I sold my old Wii two years ago cause I didn't use it.
But ZombiU seems so nice...  4.5/10 score, but destroying zombies is always funny.
